Cycling Grants London is a programme which supports London’s diverse communities to cycle more often and cycle more safely. The programme, funded by Transport for London and administered by Groundwork London, offers grants to projects of up to £10,000 over a three year period.
The programme aims to:
Cycling makes people healthier and happier and is an affordable, green and fun way to get around and explore the city. Just ask anyone you know who currently frequently cycles!
London is fast becoming a cycling city and Cycling Grants London wants to make sure all Londoners benefit from the joys of cycling, regardless of their background or situation. Often people don’t cycle because they lack the opportunity, information, skills, confidence or motivation to do so; or because they do not have access to a bicycle or the means to maintain it. Cycling Grants London supports community organisations that work with those who need encouragement and support to get them cycling. If you have an idea to inspire and support people in your community to cycle more often and cycle more safely, Cycling Grants London may be able to support you!
Type of grants available
Organisations that have not received a grant from Cycling Grants London or the Community Cycling Fund for London before, OR that have but are looking to deliver a new project,* can apply for the following funding:
£10,000 for Three Year Projects
£3,000 for E-bikes
This year to encourage an even wider range of people to take up cycling, an additional £3,000 grant is available for new and existing projects to buy an electric bike (e-bike) - a regular pedal cycle fitted with an electric motor that give power assistance when the rider pedals. An electric bike is a great way for people to cycle who otherwise may not due to factors like lack of fitness, mobility impairment, journey length and living in hilly areas.
Please note that you can only apply for Year 2 and Year 3 grants in conjunction with and at the same time that you apply for the Year 1 Grant. At the end of each year your project will be assessed to determine that it is being delivered according to plan. Funding for Year 2 and 3 will only be released if this condition has been met.
Each organisation can submit up to 3 applications in one Cycling Grants London funding round. The individual projects in each of the applications need to meet the eligibility and evaluation criteria, e.g. an organisation may apply for 3 different grants to cover projects delivered at 3 of its branches; or develop 3 different and distinct projects.
Please note that whilst it is possible to apply for 3 grants per organisation, justification for doing so must be robust. All applications will be judged against the criteria set. Funding through Cycling Grants London is limited so we urge applicants to consider the merits of submitting more than one application before doing so. For advice and guidance on multiple bids, please contact the grants administrators at Groundwork via email@example.com.
* A project is considered new if it meets at least one of the following criteria:
